Ray Acker has transformed SkillsUSA at Northeast State Community College by giving students the resources, preparation, access, and institutional support they need to succeed.
As Assistant Dean of Technologies, Acker combines extensive industry experience with a student-centered approach to leadership. He treats SkillsUSA as a professional pipeline connecting classroom instruction, technical mastery, leadership development, and employment.
His work has helped build a chapter culture where students are expected to develop not only exceptional technical ability, but also the character, responsibility, and professionalism required in the workforce.

Leadership Beyond Competition
Acker has advocated for SkillsUSA at the highest levels of Northeast State. By presenting evidence of chapter growth, student achievement, and institutional value, he helped secure consistent funding so students could compete without facing financial barriers.
He has also coordinated extended access to technical laboratories so students can practice beyond normal class hours. That access requires planning, trust, cooperation across departments, and a willingness to assume additional responsibility on behalf of students.
His leadership also strengthens the transition from secondary to postsecondary Career and Technical Education. By maintaining the professional expectations students encounter in high school SkillsUSA programs, he provides a clear continuation of support, opportunity, and career preparation at the college level.

About Ray Acker
Ray Acker began his career at Northeast State Community College in 2021 following a successful career in industry. His professional background gave him extensive technical knowledge, practical problem-solving experience, and a clear understanding of workforce expectations.
Acker first served as a Lab Assistant in the Computer Science department within the Technologies division. Working directly with students in hands-on learning environments, he helped them strengthen both their technical competencies and their confidence.
He later became Technologies Coordinator, supporting instructional technology, student laboratories, recruitment, events, faculty needs, and the operation of the Technology Education Complex. His organizational ability, collaborative leadership, and commitment to service led to his promotion to Assistant Dean of Technologies.
Throughout each of these roles, Acker has remained responsible for the college’s SkillsUSA chapter. He is committed to strengthening Career and Technical Education, building partnerships, supporting student achievement, and preparing the next generation of skilled professionals for an evolving workforce.
