The SkillsUSA Tennessee College/Postsecondary State Officer Team represents the highest level of student leadership within our state association. State officers serve members across Tennessee by leading conferences, advocating for career and technical education, representing the organization at state and national events, and inspiring students throughout the year.
State officers receive extensive leadership training while developing communication, professionalism, teamwork, strategic planning, public speaking, and servant leadership skills that prepare them for future careers.

What State Officers Do
- Represent SkillsUSA Tennessee C/PS throughout the year.
- Lead conferences, ceremonies, workshops, and student sessions.

Leadership Development Continuum
The State Officer Program builds upon the SkillsUSA Tennessee C/PS Development Continuum. Students may begin through chapter involvement, jumpSTART, WLTI, TLTI, competition participation, or chapter leadership before advancing into statewide service.

State Officer Training
SOLR
State Officer Leadership Retreat
SOLR is the first major officer training experience after elections. Officers build trust as a team, develop communication skills, understand expectations, and prepare for the year ahead.
Winter Training
December and January
Officers continue developing leadership skills while preparing for ceremonies, presentations, conference roles, advocacy, parliamentary procedure, and statewide service.
Spring Training
February through May
Officers prepare for the State Leadership and Skills Conference, chapter engagement, leadership facilitation, public speaking, and recognition events.
National Preparation
NLSC and Leverage
Officers prepare to represent Tennessee at the National Leadership and Skills Conference and participate in advanced leadership development through Leverage.
Become a State Officer
Serving as a SkillsUSA Tennessee College/Postsecondary State Officer is one of the highest student leadership honors within our state association. State Officers are selected through a comprehensive leadership selection process that includes an application, candidate orientation, written examination, interview, and election by the House of Delegates.
State Officers commit to serving the association throughout the year by representing Tennessee at state and national events, leading conferences, supporting local chapters, advocating for Career and Technical Education, and serving as ambassadors for SkillsUSA.
State Officer Candidate Process
Candidates participate in the following selection process:

Application Review – Evaluation of leadership experience, service, professionalism, written communication, and leadership reflection.

Candidate Orientation – Required virtual orientation and preparation activities.

Written Examination – Assessment of SkillsUSA knowledge and organizational understanding.

Interview – Evaluation of communication, leadership, professionalism, judgment, and readiness to serve.
-
House of Delegates Election – Voting by authorized chapter delegates during the Tennessee Leadership Training Institute (TLTI).
Successful candidates are selected based on their overall performance throughout the selection process.
